The United Kingdom charity, Alliance for Rabies Control, has initiated a World Rabies Day, to be observed on September 8th. Partners include the World Veterinary Association, the World Society for the Protection of Animals, the Student American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and Kansas State University, to list a few. One of the founding partners, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will host a symposium and exposition at its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia on September 7th. This free event, which will cover the past, present, and future of rabies prevention and control, historic progress, current status, and future.
According to the Alliance for Rabies Control, more than 55,000 people, mostly in Africa and Asia, die from rabies every year.
